Terramesh

The Terramesh ® System is a modular system used at the retaining structures from reinforced soil, with a gabion frontage and is made of soft tensile, double twisted steel wire mesh, with double coating alloy Zn 95% Al + 5% or Zn 90% + Al 10% and PVC coating.

The system consists of a gabion facade connected back panel reinforcement earth.

The Terramesh ® System units are supplied in standard sizes and don’t require cutting on site. The dimensions are shown in the table below.

System units are supplied either opened or folded in bales. Bales are compressed and bound together at the factory for easy transport and handling. Each bale has a label with information about the name and dimensions of the units. The binding wire is supplied in coils and the rings are delivered in boxes.

The folded units are unfolded and placed on a solid horizontal surface. The unfolded units are stretched and pressed to get to the original form. Front, back and side panels will be raised to vertical. The panels will be attached by clamping the edge wire (100 mm frame panel extension, wire diameter larger than the net). Protuberant wires are wrapped joining the edges of the front panel to the sides and back panel to the sides. Diaphragm panels will be raised to vertical and fixed in the same manner. All edges of the diaphragm and the side panels will be closely linked to the front and back panels. Fixing will be made using steel rings coated with Zn alloy 95% + 5% Al, is necessary to use a manual or pneumatic tool to fix the rings. The maximum distance between rings should not exceed 150-200 mm along the edges that must be fixed. Adjacent units are also connected with fixing rings.

Assembly and installation phases

Terramesh system consists of pre-assembled units which reduce installation time and give an aesthetic frontage and a reinforcement without discontinuities (without joints) creating a complex system composed of wire mesh at the facade and geogrids.

 

 

The reinforced soils are structures designed to stabilize slopes and embankments through reinforcing elements with tensile strength that change the properties of lands in which they are installed. In case of stability structures, the earth reinforcement becomes an alternative to the concrete retaining walls. In addition, it has a lower impact on the environment and is also convenient from an economic perspective. A high flexibility of the reinforced soil structures allows its use in weak soils, being able to deform in the same time with the foundation. This type of structure has a higher seismic resistance. In case of slopes and embankments stabilization, the main advantage is minimizing the use of granular soils having good geotechnical characteristics and the possibility of using soils with weaker characteristics; thus results considerable savings. It is always very important to check the stability, using the real geotechnical data of the soils.
