1. CRACKSTOP – Monofilament polypropylene fibers for preventing cracking of concrete
Classic steel reinforcement, even properly designed, does not prevent or significantly reduce the cracking tendency of concrete, it just maintain the crack opening after they have already formed. Also, steel reinforcement can get rusted if the pH value of concrete decrease for some reason under the critical value thus affecting the structural integrity.
Crackstop is a patented range of monofilament polypropylene fibers that reduce the occurrence of plastic shrinkage and plastic settlement cracking, whilst enhancing the surface properties and the durability of hardened cementitious products. The fibers are extremely fine, single filaments, measuring 18 microns in diameter, cut to lengths of 3 and 19 mm, in accordance with maximum aggregate size considerations and surface appearance requirements. The fibers are coated with a surfactant to improve initial dispersion and bonding. Crackstop fibers are extremely fine and, although slightly visible in the plastic state, are not readily seen on the hardened surface.
